We were sitting in Mandisa’s room talking about all things hair: our favourite YouTube vloggers; hair products; appliances, the warped perception about keeping your hair natural, and just how frustrating it was that the market for natural hair wasn’t that big in South Africa. Then Andile said we should create a blog…a blog about how rough the journey is; about our missions to find natural hair Mecca; to encourage ourselves and others to keep the ‘fro full natural. It has been almost two years of talking and figuring out our hair out as individuals, and now it is finally time that we step into the online world of blogging and commerce.
The Real’Fro has been created to show just how different each individuals natural hair journey is. We’re family, and Mandisa and Andile are two-thirds of triplets, and even then their hair takes differently to the same products. We want The Real’Fro to represent different hair journeys and to be a source of knowledge for the ‘where-t0-go’ and ‘how-to’ with the now growing natural hair industry in South Africa. We want to become your number one source, where you can find your favourite hair products, hacks, and gizmos. Mostly, we want our kinky coils to grow into beautiful manes, and create a new definition of what “good hair” really is: kinky, big, and relaxer-free.
